AARP Oklahoma is partnering with community organizations across the state to host five free drive-thru shredding events in April and May to help Oklahomans protect themselves from identity theft.

The shred events will take place in Oklahoma City, Enid, Shawnee, Edmond, and Tulsa, and are open to the public, as AARP membership is not required to participate. Attendees can also enter for a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards at aarp.org/fraudwatchdog.

At each location, participants may bring up to two boxes worth of documents, free of staples, for secure onsite shredding. The AARP Fraud Watch Network recommends shredding documents that contain sensitive information like account numbers, Social Security numbers, birthdates, signatures, and PINs.

“Oklahomans lose millions each year to fraud, but simple steps like securely destroying sensitive documents can make a big difference in staying safe,” said AARP Oklahoma State Director Sean Voskuhl. “AARP Oklahoma is proud to work with outstanding community partners to provide free, convenient shredding services that help protect residents of all ages.”

AARP Oklahoma is partnering with several organizations statewide, including Security National Bank of Enid, The Enid News & Eagle, News on 6 and The River 96.5, Oklahoma Bankers Association, Oklahoma County Sheriff TRIAD office, City of Shawnee Parks & Recreation.
